| | Registered User | | | | | I agree...I got burned twice when buying from the US. One time the seller gauranteed there would be no brokerage fee's. A month later, I get a bill for 75$. Not from UPS, but from a stinking collection agency! I had no choice but to pay it. Their "brokerage fee's" are pretty much criminal. I have probably done 500 transactions through Canada Post and USPS and they are perfect.
Thats funny..I just noticed your from Montreal..me too!
Go habs Go!!

That said, I prefer FedEx over UPS any day of the week. DHL sucks wind too. And USPS, forget it.

Despite my current issue with them, I used to work as a shipping dept director and we always avoided them.
Never had a single issue with USPS in hundreds of transactions.

Really, how does this seem like a good idea? it is a theft waiting to happen. I got lucky since it was one of the few good neighbors and received a call from them late that night but UPS tried to claim it was not their problem after I realized what they had done.
Once they left a brand new bass sitting outside my apartment, fully visible from the street, and its wasn't a cheap bass, I would have been out over a grand if I hadn't taken a personal day and left work.
Another time I found someones package on my doorstep from them that wasn't mine, I followed the address and returned it to a neighbor. turns out it was a brand new IPOD that could have just been "mine" or anyone's for that matter. They just got lucky that I found it not one of the hoodlums on my street.
When I have a choice, I always go with ANY other option

I moved about a year ago but have noticed a huge difference even though I'm about 20 miles/30 or so km from my old neighborhood.
In the past USPS was damn near perfect, never had a single issue in years and years. FEDEX absolutely sucked, where they would not deliver packages and lie that they attempted, this happened repeatedly. Then there was UPS who was just so so but tended to break crap...now, in my new neighborhood, USPS has proven itself to be near-pathetic, FEDEX is amazingly dependable and UPS is pretty good.
So IME it really depends more on where you are and not so much on a carrier itself

| | | | I've not had any major issues with UPS, FedEx or USPS. Just minor ones across the board. I use all 3 daily for work, well indirectly.
They all have the same type of problems once in a while. Using one over the other because of small issues isn't really going to alleviate you from ever having an issue again.
They also tend to send their better, more experienced and reliable drivers to business routes fwiw. Quaint suburban neighborhoods usually get the newbies.
The only legit complaint I have about any of them is FedEx doesn't count the pick-up date as part of their shipping estimates. So if they say it will arrive in 3 days, don't count the pick-up date. The exception is overnight stuff obviously.
If you are worried about buying expensive stuff have it shipped to where you work. They are going to leave it outside your residence unless it says signature required. How can you hate on them for leaving something out there when you're the one that had it shipped there in the first place but weren't home to receive it in person? come on...

They have also let a neighbour sign for a delivery - an expensive bass. Mind you, Canada Post left a '76 Precision on my doorstep. The seller shipped it parcel with no sig required. I was shocked that it was still there. |

Packages go where you send them. If you've got a high value item arriving that you know you won't be home to sign for, and want to ensure it's received safely, have it shipped somewhere that it will be signed for. Work. Parents. Leasing office. Trusted neighbor. Whatever.

While it's designed to keep your item secure, it can also be misused. Case in point- my USPS driver apparently does not like to leave the comfort of her mail truck so if something is sent to me as "signature required" I will not get it. (I work from home so I'm lucky in that respect). the best part about it is sometimes I'll get a little slip stating "3rd attempt at delivery has failed" and I'll have to make arrangements to pick it up or back it goes to the sender....the nice part about it? In the past it's been with items that were sent two days before for instance. Do the math. 3 attempts = 3 separate days not including travel time from shipper to local depot.... derrr edrrederrr

The devilery, pardon, delivery guy fill the missed attemp slip in his truck and doesn't even ring the bell. I saw him do it several times for myself (I came out running after him) and for neighbors.
