I have an insane cat

This morning, I saw my cat do something that I have never seen before. It was absolutely bizarre. A little background 1st - she loves to kill stuff, and is very territorial. Whenever she's outside she's perpetually leaving dead moles, mice, chipmunks, whatever, even the odd squirrel or two on my doorstep. This morning she completely outdid herself. I let her out at about 6:30 am, and made some coffee. As I'm drinking my coffee I look out the back window and into our yard only to see two fairly big doe about 30' away from my house. I call my kids: "guys, come here, look at the deer." Just as I say this, out from behind the garage comes a black streak flying through the air and landing square on one of the deer's arses, yes it was my cat. She apparently thinks that she's a black jaguar. The deer takes off at about 80 MPH, with the cat riding it's arse for about 10 feet before falling off.
I never in a million years would ever thought that a small house cat would have a go at a deer.. have any of you ever seen your, (or any) house cat go after something big like that?

Isn't there a video on youtube of a cat chasing off a bear? I'll try to find it.

EDIT : here it is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RIgQdpZDeY

My old cat Quincy tried to take down a cow once. A vet visit ensued..........

After the hoof to the face he was known as "ole one fang"

All cats are insane; some dangerously so

I tried to shoo a neighbor's big fluffy white kitty off our fence one day, but it just hissed at me. So I got the hose. I won that round. Later, my much smaller & completely weird deaf-w/no-equilibrium cat beat the CRAP out of 'fluffy'.

I was telling my kids that if I had been filming that, it would have been an absolute youtube classic - she was sailing through mid-air for what seemed like minutes with her front claws outstretched and mouth wide open showing some fang-age... it was great. She landed on this things butt and dug in like she was going to bring it down and feast on the victory.

"Insane cat".

Isn't that sort of redundant?

Insane cat is a redundant phrase.

But like small dogs, cats all know they are 10 feet tall and nasty. Occasionally they get reality checks.

That's outstanding. Cats are hardcore predators - it's amazing what they'll hunt/stalk/kill.

My brother had a similar cat. We would go to his house and it was like Apocalypse Now with severed Chipmunk heads littering their walkway. Some still had nuts stuffed in their cheeks!

Here your cat is killing everything in a 2 mile radius and taking on deer...My dog can't even catch a squirrel (had one in his mouth once but I guess he didn't realize he needed to bite down).

Hell yeah it would have been! Man, your cat isn't a pet, it's a weapon. Ever thought to offer her talents to a hunter? It could be worth several staghounds...
However, this whole story made me laugh so badly I have bad aches and pains in my chest and my stomach. Made my day!

Great story.

My parent's cat once chased a fox away from the yard outside our summerhouse. IIRC, it wasn't even one year old when that happened.

Out here in Ca there arent very many moles an whatnot, but I actually watched my cat jump into a bush and exit with a bird in its mouth. I had to go stop it, because I didnt want the bird to die, since then I dont think my cat has liked me that much.

But my new cat is often leaving lizards and preying mantis at my door all the time, he's only about 3 months old. He's part siamese and he's all black except for some white fur on his butt, he's awesome. The best is watching him chase after a laser pointer....

In north america I believe that cats are the apex predator for their environment. Nothing like being at the top of the food chain!

Something in the water here causes my cat to occaisionally kill racoons, not an easy feat. Ever see one o' them close up? Whole lotta teeth and claws. I've found the heads on my deck at least twice now On the canine side, I have 13" beagle who thinks he's a timber wolf. He's taken on Goldens , Labs and a Pair of German Shepards, and come away winning. Weird things happen in the woods at night and I haven't lost a pet yet.
