Yes friends, I have received a call back from Apple to come in for a second interview on Satruday morning. This could potentially be my first "real" job since 2003.
I submitted a resume, and was subsequently invited to a hiring seminar at their store last Sunday. I was in a room with about 30 other candidates, and oddly enough, I was the only one who brought their own pen. They asked a bunch of questions, had us do some public speaking, and gave those of us who were applying for the Genius position a technical test. I did really well in every aspect of the seminar, with the exception of the test, which focussed on software and hardware that I haven't upgraded to yet - I really botched it, even though I've been using Macs for over 12 years. I feel pretty stupid about that, but I think my winning personality and good looks have prevailed, and now I'm going in for a one on one interview.
I really, really need this job. It's much harder getting paying gigs in San Francisco, and I haven't been able to nail down enough to cover my rent yet. Working for Apple seems like a really cool gig, it pays well, and I really enjoy Apple products. Wish me luck, gentlemen. |

I've always subscribed to the philosophy that there are things you can teach - software and hardware - and things you can't - personality, organization, charisma, etc. Sounds like you're loaded with the latter and can easily come up to speed with the former.
Here's hoping you get the gig. Then I can ask you to help me bug Apple for a solution to manage all of these darn iPhones (mine included) I have connected to my network. |

The visual of a room full of job seekers all with ipods, iphones, and imacs BUT only one who actually had thought to bring an archaic item like a freakin pen... is kinda comical to me!! |

You can teach someone the technical stuff, its the showing up on time, and the desire to succeed, coupled with pride in your work, that's hard for people to learn... they resist. You didn't have to ace the test, just do better than the other candidates... besides their gonna teach you that stuff anyway...
Good luck, I'm sure you will do well... |

Having never seen you, was I close in my assumption?
