I have this LCD TV that needs repair

Periodically, the picture looks like a slot machine (no vertical hold.) We have taken it to an electronics shop but of course, it operated fine for all the while it was there. Can it be fixed for a reasonable cost or should we chunk it?

You try hitting it while it does this? We had an old tv that would just need a swift smack to the side to bring it back to normal. But it wasn't LCD...

Is this a recent devenopement or ongoing for some time?

This may sound odd, but you could check the output voltage at the plug. My dad was a t.v. repiarman, and he had a similar problem with an old set. Worked fine in the shop, wouldn't work right in the customers home. I was with him one day, and just happened to mention that. He checked the voltage, and was getting ~ 90VAC from the plug. Tracked it down to fauly wiring.
Couldn't hurt.

Have a search for your model on the BadCaps forums; here's the TV & Video sub-forum:

I scored a defective Samsung 21" LCD monitor off Ebay for GB£12, took about 1/2 an hour of bad language to get it apart & 10mins with a soldering iron to fix. Less than £5 on components. Win!

Not saying yours is economically fixable, but worth a look.

Pete.
