| Living right across the river from West Memphis, I've followed this case since the murders in '93. Even now I don't know whether or not they committed the murders, but I lean on the side of believing they're innocent.
They had the bad fortune of being "different", wearing black clothes, longish hair, liking heavy metal, etc. I think law enforcement zeroed in on them and never seriously considered any other possibilities. The night of the murders, a witness at a large truck stop (very near the murder scene) reported seeing a man in the bathroom with bloody clothes. They never really followed up because in their minds, they already had the guilty parties.
Jessie Misskelly confessed to watching the other two commit the murders, but that was after a lengthy interrogation. Plus, he has an I.Q. of 72. He later recanted and said his confession was coerced. (Imagine that!) The only DNA found at the scene belonged to the step-father of one of the boys and a friend of the step-father. No link at all to the West Memphis 3.
Of course I might be wrong, but my gut feeling is that they are innocent.
