Okay, where did this phrase "a Hot Mess" come from? I only started noticing people using it maybe in the past year or so. And it's always women who use the expression, I've never heard a man say "I was a Hot Mess!"
And is it just me, or do other people immediately think lewd and lascivious thoughts when a woman says "I was a Hot Mess" ?
I'm pretty sure they're not referring to their temperature when they say "I was a Hot Mess." Fact is, I'm not sure what they're saying when they say "I was a Hot Mess", all I know is that my mind immediately goes to the gutter and I wanna see pictures of Ms. Hot Mess.
What's the etymology of the term? |

I think definition #3 is the most accurate:
An attractive person, usually female, whose appearance is detrimentally affected by their level of drunkenness. Girl, you had a lot to drink. By the end of the night, you were a hot mess.
