I just booked my flight to Norway...

I had the choice between a 2 hour lay over in Amsterdam or an 8 hour lay over in Amsterdam. I did not think it through and chose the 2 hour...epic mistake.

Yes, first time out of the States as a civilian. I'm looking forward to the trip.

If you had the 8 hour lay over, you may have missed your next flight

On saying that, I only left ~2 hours between flights for my last trans-Atlantic, and I barely made my connecting one (got on 10 minutes after the gate closed).

Enjoy the trip!

2 hours in Amsterdam are not much, but you should manage to take a short trip in the tax free and enjoy an espresso before your flight to Norway. Stavanger is great, the downtown part is based on the old city, lots of pubs and coffee houses.

Last year, I went through Amsterdam on my way to Oslo. I think you'll have to get to your flight as quickly as possible, then enjoy how ever much time you have there. I loved Oslo and Bergen. Spent several days in each place, and slept on the train from Bergen back to Oslo. Marvelous experience! I hope to return next year. I developed a taste for a few different varieties of aquavit there.
