I just deactivated my facebook account...

In the interest of privacy, not wasting time, and avoiding having an aneurysm over the ridiculous apps that keep popping up on my screen, I've gotten rid of my facebook account.

This has already proven to be a very difficult undertaking.

I was by no means one of those kids who is constantly checking facebook on his Blackberry, though I did enjoy reading through all of the updates and facebook stalking the occasional person in my organic chem class. Now, though, I'm feeling some serious withdrawal. It's like I've been disconnected from all of humanity and my only friends now are those with my cell phone number, and my textbooks. I'm truly shocked at how dependent I had become on it.

At the same time, it's an oddly liberating feeling. Now I don't have to worry about who is tagging me in what picture, who's posting what on my wall, etc. I certainly dig that.

Congrats, though. There really isn't anything wrong with being connected but it is kind of surprising how many people are addicted to it.

If it was more of a hassle than entertainment or bringing a smile to your face, you did the right thing. I check mine once a day and anyone expecting an instant reply or update from me is sadly mistaken.

Now if only I could get away from TB I might get something productive done in my life.

cheers and good luck with O-chem. P-chem was worse (17 years ago).

I am tempted but it is a good way to keep in touch with family. MAybe limit my "friends" to just family instead of old college and casual acquaintences.....

Good move! None of us need Facebook to waste all our time posting and responding to trivial garbage online. We can do that right here.

Did you make an announcement on Twitter that you would be deactivating your Facebook? You'd want to be careful all those people you haven't spoken to for 20 years, ex girlfriends, and total strangers with the same surname as you aren't disappointed because they weren't notified.

One funny thing about Facebook to me was that I reconnected with all of these people that I'd hadn't talked to since high school and then realized why I hadn't bothered to stay in contact with them in the first place.
