The crazy thing is that I am not that sad or angry. I actually am a little relieved. The whole letting go was handled so poorly. I actually feel sorry for the project manager that I was working with that has a deadline tomorrow and I am one of the few people that knows how to run the software.

I have been working at the firm for 9-1/2 years and am an associate. I have a ton of knowledge previous experience on projects that is up in my brain. Even if they get a guy who is better than me (which I doubt) it will take them a long while to get him (or her) up to speed.

Crazy man crazy!

You have my sympathies. I was let go from my job last January, and I still havn't found anything in my field. Go sign up for unemployment tomorrow, get yourself a good resume, and hit the ground running. Good luck to you.

How was it handled poorly? They seem to do a professional job RIFing people where I work, it's just no one can understand why they let go the people they do.

sorry to hear bro. If it makes you feel any better I got let go in July. They fired me for being sick.
Seriously... despite having unused sick days they said I missed my shift so they fired me.

I was laid off a year ago, the department went from 14 employees to two, and my embedded Linux development project was moved to China. Supposedly they pay a Computer Science Ph.D. in China about $12K/yr, just a bit less than what they were paying me. However, our group would have finished the project within 9-10 weeks. Instead, they made a dumb mistake, did something I'd argued against, and have spent most of the last year trying to backtrack, find and fix the problem. The software is less stable today than it was a year ago. Are the management people who made the decision to destroy the engineering department held responsible for the results of their actions?? Well, no.

Join the parade, my friend. Things are really messed up right now, and only going to get worse in the short term. We're going to have a triple-dip recession, I believe.

Good luck to you, fortunately I've stuck around even with the state cuts to education.

On of my best friends just got let go on Monday. They let people go at his office in groups of 5 or so stringing from Thursday though Tuesday. So he came into work thinking he survived the cut, only to get canned. That was pretty brutal IMO, but I guess there really is no nice way of doing it... I knew and worked close with most of them.

What's really sad, is that now the majority of people I've worked close with over my short career are now either unemployed or underemployed. No joke. The architecture industry is dead with no signs of life, and that is NOT a good sign for the "economy". Bad for contractors, sub-contractors, builders, architects, engineers, developers, designers, etc...

Condolences, hope you find something else soon. It's a tough market.

Draw unemployment for a few months and enjoy some off time to get rejuvenated.
