I love Apple Customer Service

Yes, it's commonly known that I'm an Apple fanboy.

No, I'm not one of those people who things Apple does no wrong.

Yes, I know Apple has some issues.

That being said, I had dust under the glass on my iPhone, and I had one of the infamous Crackbooks (not named for the same reason as the Crackberry, but rather because the topcase with keyboard simply cracked around the edges due to a design flaw).

Yesterday, I took my iPhone to the Apple store and had it replaced within twenty minutes. Came home, restored my phone from the backup I'd previously made, and it's like I have my old phone back without the dust. In and out in twenty minutes with a brand new phone for free.

Today, I took my Crackbook in to be fixed. It's out of warranty, and it's currently being repaired for free. I should have it back tonight.

Sure, you pay out the butt at first, but the quality, IMO, and the service is certainly worth it.

Wow, When my 80gig ipod when tits up a few weeks after getting it they pretty much refused to replace in under warranty because they thought I messed with it on purpose. On the phone, the service rep was rather unpolite and very interrupting. I could not get a sentence out without her stopping me to add some unneeded comment.

And that is why I don't deal with apple anymore, but it seems you had a good exp. with them. Maybe they just don't like us PC folk.

Ask to speak to a different rep and explain the story. If you didn't mess with it, there should be no reason they wouldn't fix it.

I talked to the supervisor and got some results, but barely at that. He asked if I have a mac or a pc, I said PC and he pretty much chuckled and said thats your problem. Not his exact words, but its what he implied. It was because it was only about a week old when it just died. Very unusual. So they assumed I had tried something on it and it failed. After lots of debating with him I finally got a new one, But it broke a few months later. Now I have a sony something rather. Its outlived both my ipods so far.

Wow. I'm still using the one I bought two years ago without a problem other than the battery starting to show it's age.

I know people who are still using 2nd and 3rd gen iPods without a problem other than sucky battery life. They usually just leave those plugged into their cars though.

I'm very hard on mp3 players, when I'm not playing bass I'm either downhill biking or dirtbiking, Or in the winter snowmobilin. I always have music on. So far, The longest lasting mp3 player I have owned is the creative zen. It lasted me a year, its been through alot. I've landed on it countless times, dropped it dozens, Hell, it even survived a quick dip in the lake. Ipods, Not so much. The fastest one died on me was 3 days. Thats rubbish. It was barely abused much. I think I slid maybe 10 feet on the trails with it in my pocket.

i have a macbook with the apple care.. i should really take it in for the part of the case that is discolored. apple wouldn't admit this issue for a while, but then they started fixing it.

Good for you, congrats!

Apple support sux imho. I have been an apple user for almost 7 years now and bought in all round about 5-6 computers from them, four wireless bass stations and some other junk (ipods etc.).

Their things tend to break slightly after the warranty is gone.

Worst of all is my macbook (2.16, black macbook). First it worked just fine, then with one of the 10.4 upgrades the wifi got really flakey, after a month or two, a fix patch was released, fine so far, then came 10.4.9, and wifi was flakey again, still is (10.4.11) and apple refuses to acknowledge it as an os x problem and claims that they can't help me coz my macbook is now outa warranty....

I love os x, and will stay on it as long as there's no competition showing up, but honestly apples hardware really doesn't deliver anything near quality for what you pay for it.

Yeah I know, Leopard possibly fixes the wifi flakey-ness, but what if it doesn't (doesn't look promising if you google)...

I've also had nothing but awesome service from Apple as well. My macbook battery took a dump...."here's a new one" My Imac had a dead pixel on the screen.......".here's a new imac, and we've transfered all your files and programs for you". My trackpad/button on my macbook mysteriously stopped working after my 2 year old got done eating his lunch by it. (milk). "we have that top/pad in stock. can you leave it for an hour?" SURE!

I love their products, service and extended warranties.

And no, I don't work for apple, or own any of their stock.

Let me elaborate:

As far as "out of the box" computers go (with the exception of Falcon NW) they are probably the best.

But when it comes to high end application/gaming specific systems they can't touch the versatility of a PC (minus the operating system)..

I disagree, there's a TON you can do with a Mac that you can also do with a PC, and there's a ton that you can do with a PC that you can do with a Mac. Neither is better than the other, even though I'll take a Mac over a PC anyday, but that's personal preference.

The only major advantage to a PC is the availability of software, which the gap is closing. Mac now has just over 10% of the operating system market share between the iPhone and OSX, and the availability of software is showing in that.

Still not many games out for Mac, compared to PC though.

Welcome to the world of marketing ploys. Some things are actually designed to malfunction after the warranty's expired, so the buyer will go back and buy another one. Thank God basses aren't like that.
