Ok, I clicked the link and read the article, now could someone explain what capitalism has to do with it?

EDIT: ^Beat me to it. Great minds think alike I guess...

No, I get the "pure capitalism" reference. What's more pure capitalism without government control than the illicit drug industry? If drugs were legal then the traffickers would have to shut up shop, there would be quality control regulations, there would be safeguards, and so on. Instead we have open slather capitalism and people end up dying horribly, not just like in this case but through infection and overdose.

i thoroughly agree with your legalizing drugs point, but you could not be more wrong about this being pure capitalism without government controls. (which i am in favor of for the most part)

the actual buying & selling may be pure capitalism, but it takes place in a milieu of total illegality, which is what causes the violence. are you going to tell me that is not the ultimate government control? and THAT, not the pure capitalism aspect, is the source of the violence and the killings.

you will notice, there aren't shootings and killings around the growth and distribution of coffee....why not?

well, because coffee is sold in a basically pure capitalist market without the constant threats and payoffs and all sorts of dirty dealings associated with trafficking in a purely illegal substance.

so, if we remove the illegality and let everyone grow and sell it, we put the violence right out of it at once.

far from proving that capitalism is in any way bad, this is a textbook example of the harm done by government attempting to control capitalism with laws and rules.

Absolutely no connection between capitalism and the news article, but at least it shows how some people just love to ramp up the rhetoric.

Legalizing drugs does not make the problems just go away.

Vicodin - legal.
Oxycodone - legal.
Children's Advil Cold - legal.
