I need to recopy old pictures

I have some old pictures of my late sister that her daughter would like. What is the best way to reproduce these so that it looks good? I don't have the negatives.

I'm sorry for your loss.

You should probably get a high quality scanner. That, or take it to pro's (but they'll probably do the same).

Like mentioned above, a scanner and photo editing software, if you want to do it yourself. After scanning the photo you can correct things like the color, lighting, and contrast.

I've done a couple of really old photos of my great grandparents that I think came out pretty good. I didn't have a scanner at the time and simply took a picture of the photo with my digital camera.
