I need urgent help! [Word related]

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all,

yesterday night I was working on a very important document in Word 2007. While saving it Word started acting up (this program isn't responding, blablabla), but I managed to control it and save the file on a USB flashdrive.

Today I want to continue working on it and I get this:

"office open xml file cannot be opened because there are problems with its content"

If I click OK Word asks me to confirm if the file is safe etc, but confirming this leads to nothing.

***???

I opened the file in Open Office and managed to get 5 out of 13 pages, the other 8 didn't show up.

Someone suggested opening it up in Word 2003, which I did, but to no avail.

Is this really 3 days of work gone?

Please say it isn't so

Can anyone help me?

In the rapidshare file is the corrupted docx file. If you think you can help me, please download this and try opening it.

Thanks again.

Edit; I tried opening it with Winrar as some have suggested in similar threads on other forums. The scary thing is that in the Xml files only the first 5 pages are visible. The other 8 are simply gone.

Unlike you, I'll actually help. Save it as 97-2003 (.doc) . Bigger file (doesnt really matter though) and it should open just about anywhere.

EDIT: nvm, you are screwed, i cant open it up with anything.

uh man, I'm sorry to say that that file is corrupt... I tried everything I can think of to no avail. Maybe someone else here can figure it out. Keeping my fingers crossed for ya.

Yep all sorts of jacked up I see it all the time. No use in trying more than you have to to recover it and start over.

Please remember to back your files up, too many people forget to, save often and to different places and try to set up shadow copies if you can.

try downloading undelete plus and finding an old copy of it on your drive.
It's friday so I will work on it a bit today and see what I can do.
cause I love me some good beer.

I tried opening the content with different programs, but to no avail.
I hope someone more knowledgable can help you recover this one.
Seems like Word messed up before you saved that file.

I guess you'll better do it all over again, sadly.

Bon courage.

Did you look in the temp folder for prior autosaved versions of the doc?

That's the route I would take here. There should be a hidden .asd file on your machine somewhere which is the last autosave of that file. More info here.

Have you tried viewing it with a file viewer such as V.exe? That will read almost anything. I use it all the time for weird files at work.

Not sure if it would matter, but did you try launching the file locally instead of from your thumb. Drag the file onto your desktop and try from there. Just a thought.

if it's a westy send me the file and I'll work on it for hours. Otherwise, I'll give it a try. Rapidshare link is dead.
