I-Pod Headphone replacements

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an I-Pod Nano. I dig it, but I need to replace the headphones.

I like the stock 'phones that came with it. I also use the foam covers over them. I dislike the rubbery inserts replacements offered by some makers. My question is this:

With that consideration, are there any options better than the stock Apple head-phones that are around the same price or less?

P.S. I am a bit of an audiophile about these things so better+ sound is important.

i apologize in advance for this probably not being super helpful, but in my experience, if you want better sound quality (and noticeable bass), then you need to go with the ones with the rubber or foam tips.

why do you prefer the ones you do? (i ask because the stock apple ones are vastly inferior to anything shure makes by light years.)

i used to go with the bare ones or the ones with that cloth type covering, and when i switched to the rubbery ones, it took a little while to get used to them, but its worth it. thats my worthless opinion. take it for what its worth.

I've spent a ton of money on some high end ear phones. Most never fit right or don't sound as good as I think they should. This year I bought a cheap pair of Skull Candy earphones (I think I spent $13 on sale) and the fit great, stay in and sound pretty darn good. HUGE bang for the buck and better than some multi hundred dollar phones I bought.

DJ monitor headphones (not earphones).

You will look like a dork, but they sound a lot better

Thanks for your post.

My only reason is the one you state; getting used to them. I am a sucker for as close to hi-fi as I can get. So as much as I don't want to change, I like the 'breathability(?)' if the original Apple gear, having differences pointed out helps.

i gotcha- it can also be beneficial to not have so much sound isolation (unless youre on a plane). i will be in waiting rooms getting called 30 times until i look up and someone is like 2 feet from my face.

honestly, if youre just going for cheap, maybe just hit up best buy and get something by sony for 10-15 bucks. i have always been an ear bud person, and have gone through literally dozens of pairs, and when you pay cheap you do get cheap. sony always lasted longer for me (as opposed to panasonic or whatever).

EDIT: oh- hey- one big plus of the shures i have is that the cord is two parts (as in- its ear buds with essentially a headphone jack extension cord). when you walk around and the cord gets caught on a knob or something, the cords separate. the problem i had with cheaper ear buds was when i would snag them on something, most of the times it would pull the cord out of the bud (little part with the little speaker [is "bud" the right word? whatever...]).

I use Sennheiser IE6 (earbuds) and Grado SR-80 (on-ear). They're both pretty amazing.

Get ones with the rubber inserts. So much bass on some of them, your head will explode. The rubber makes a seal with your ear, giving better sound and, more bass.

I have some Maximo earbuds that sound pretty dang nice. I couldn't compare them with my Senn. HD 555's, but they were definitely worth the money.
