YES i did it. After 8 years. I'm now on day 5 and feel great. Food tastes better, I can smell things, I'm breathing easier. I'm motivated, and I've been told that what I'm doing is inspiring to other smokers.
I'm trying hard not to be one of those annoying ex-smokers who is constantly giving smokers a hard time. I know how they can be. But when you quit, it makes you feel so good that you want all smokers to know just how good they can feel. So it's tough. I mostly keep to myself about it, but if any smokers are looking for tips and advice on stopping, I'm more than willing to help.
PS: Nicorette Gum works. |

I too quit smoking 11 months ago after having been a half a pack a day smoker for at least 15 years. I used the patch and admit I've had cravings but I have resisted the urge...the only time I find it tough not to want to smoke is with a beer or cocktail. I definitely feel 100 times better but my system still has a ways to go before the damage that's been done is healed.

I still get strong cravings after I eat meals.
Every time I have a craving I take a piece of 4mg nicotine gum. After a few seconds the craving is gone. It's that easy.
It takes a lot of will power, but once you start to feel better, it becomes easier. |

That's one of the things that's always motivated me, the fact that I'll always be a smoker who chooses not to smoke, and if I have even one, I'm back to smoking again. And when the day comes that your doctor says that your lungs sound clear to him you'll be on Cloud 9!

Congratulations!!!
I quit in my late 20's (I'm 53 now). Beware of friends (and enemies, and strangers) who smoke. Some may be outright turds who will offer you cigarettes for whatever reason, and some may just be smoking across the table with no thought of tempting you (after a meal - when you are most vulnerable). Try to avoid the temptation. Best of luck! |

I've calculated that I will save over $2000 a year by not smoking. It's kind of disgusting once you start crunching the numbers just how much of my hard work went to basically killing myself slowly. *sigh* but it's behind me now. I try not to think about the money I wasted, but more about the money I will save. |

Took 10 solid years of pack a day smoking, but I'm finally fed up of blowing my money and my health. I'm fully commited this time, and nothings gonna make me go back. |

| | | | Congrats Dude!
Alot of my family smoke heavily. My grandfather just quit after 59 years of smoking two or three packs a day.
Once again, congrats, and keep it up!

Day 7-12 are the worst, then it gets better quickly. You're right about it only taking one, though. I've watched so many of my friends go back...
