I have only recently discovered this show. First on the Ovation channel and then on BBC America. What a great format. Having a group of bands all set up and ready to play live. It has also turned me on to music I probably would have never found. Like Richard Thompson....

Why are there no other shows like this?

There is, kind of. Spectacle, Elvis Costello with:. It is also a very good show. I have seen later a few times, and my only complaint is that the mix isn't always that good.

Love the show. I just found out about it a few years ago. I don't always dig the lineups, but that's a side effect of having such eclectic guests which is a trade off I'll take every time. I've found a number of new bands/artists that I like from watching it.

And how many shows could have an intro like this:

That was one of my favorite episodes. I like RHCP, and Bellowhead, Keane and Thom Yorke were good too but my favorite performance was this song from Anthony David:

And unless I'm mistaken, that's TB's Woodchuck on bass.

Years ago he had a show called "Night Music" that was on late Sunday night and the band leader was David Sanborn. There would be jams of the diverse artist that were on that evening and got to witness some combinations of musicians that will probably never happen again.

I enjoy what I've seen of the show referred to as the thread starter. Most of what I've seen there is from the On Demand BBC with short video of one or two tunes of a particular artist.

Elvis Costello's show is a similar set up to to "night music". Usually with Elvis and the guests jamming out some tunes.

+1

Arguably the best music show I've ever seen on TV. Marcus Miller was the music director for a while too. Check these clips out.

Jools has been around forever IIRC.
