I think I have a stalker....:-(

OK I'm now officially creeped out. Recently I've seen this guy following me about, usually hanging around on the street, coming into shops where I'm at, even staring at me when I'm grabbing some lunch.

It's gotten to the point where I'm worried to go out shopping, go to church or even visit friends.

The guy is definitely foreign and I know nothing else about him.

Any advice?

The police will be happy to help after he's assaulted you.

Let's just hope that doesn't happen.

Have any tough guy friends? Have them let him know how welcome his actions are.

I was going to suggest pepper spray, but that's illegal in the UK.

A truncheon? They only use those in really bad situations.

The police won't do that much anyway as long as this guy is keeping his distance.

Do you have any friends who can hang by and see if the guy is indeed stalking you?

That's how we take care of BS like this 'round here, seems to do the trick.

I don't live any where near any of my main friends so getting hold of any of them might be an issue.

You need large, trustworthy male friends with you for a few days of your normal routine. Have them have a polite word with him when he turns up.

Edit: just saw your last post. Tough one...how about next time you spot him walk directly towards the nearest police station?

Are pointy things illegal in the Uk yet?

Maybe carry a large salad fork.

In all seriousness if someone really is stocking you, at least file a complaint.

Could always use my bass as a blunt object.

Kinda hard to carry in a purse or backpack though...

I second the pointy object suggestion.

Get a digital camera and take pictures of him with the date stamp on the image file. Take a picture every time you see him. Get enough of those and you've got probable cause for the police to look into it.

If you lived in the US I'd suggest getting a gun. However, since your's is a more civilized country. Get a camera and the next time you see the guy take a couple of pictures. Make sure he sees you do it. If he starts to walk away, follow him and continue taking photos until it becomes dangerous to do so (i.e. down an alley, into an unpopulated area).

If its just a misunderstanding, he'll probably ask why you're taking his picture and you can hopefully clear up whatever is going on. Again if you talk to him make sure its in a public place with lots of people around.

If its not, you might be able to find out where he lives or works. You'll also be able to tell the police that the guy fled when you tried to contact him in regards to his following you and you'll have pictures of the guy to compare if by some chance he's a known scumbag.

Remember, if this guy is following you with the intent of causing you harm. He already knows where you live, work and probably knows your personal habits as well. Its better to turn the situation around and risk him flipping out in public (with people around who can help you) than to wait for him to act on his own terms.

Make sure when you talk to the cops you are articulate with your statement. Don't say that the guy "might" be following you, or you "don't know" if you're in any danger. Remember exact times and places you've seen this guy, be very specific as to why you feel threatened, and don't make it sound like you think you could be waisting their time. If you sound like you're not sure about what's going on the police will generally look at the situation as if you are indeed mistaken.
