I end up making stories about everything based off stories I've heard. Like if you ask me about a certain bass, I might be inclined to say I played it and liked it, when I've never even seen one in person, I've only heard about it. But I do lie a lot.
I think the only time I'm truthful is when I try to sell stuff. I can't stand to lie to someone to get their money.
Help me.

Help me. | I don't believe any of that. I think you are making that up.

I'm really trying to stop, but I just caught myself again.
I just want some help, didn't really know where to turn because here I don't really know anyone in person so it's not that big of a deal for me to spill beans on something.
And as much as you think I might be making this up, I'm not.

Theyre the type of person, lets say a coworker, who you relate a story to, and they respond with something like "oh, yeah, Ive done that, but it <insert similar subject matter, only better>"
Theyre often quite easy to spot, as they seemingly know everything youre telling them about, but only the points youve already mentioned. Ive always suspected that it came from some strange need for acceptance, like you'll think less of them if they dont know what youre talking about. Rather than actually being interested and asking question they play along like if they know all about it, but never have anything to actually add, unless they can reword whats already been told to them in a way that it sounds fresh.
I had a coworker like this. My friends ex-gf was the same way, only she would just completely make it up, unprovoked.

And as much as you think I might be making this up, I'm not. | I don't believe that you are, as I posted above, there is a comforting rhythm to deceit, and people use it for many different reasons, maybe in your instance credibility or even your imagination will put you there?

I went to see a professional and it helped me a lot.

See a counsellor, but as I've said, at least you have realised it's a problem, take your time and learn to like yourself for who you really are ; )

As someone that enjoys life and is passionate about many things, I realize that most most people walking around-appear more interested in themselves, and that is what they prefer to talk about in conversation.
I'm not saying that most people don't care about others, but there's plenty of people in the world that just don't take time, or interest in others.
Try being yourself...

At least you're off to a good start by telling people.
