I thought Maine was closer than Switzerland

I've been parting out a '72 P-bass for the last couple of weeks (unfortunately...long story). One day at the Post Office, I sent the knobs and neck plate to Maine (via Priority Mail) and the pickups to Switzerland (via Priority Mail International). I heard from both buyers and their packages arrived on the same day.

I realize this is kind of dumb post, but it amazed me that two packages sent the same day...one destination within the US and the other to Europe...would arrive on the same day.

This is not a complaint about our mail system, mind you. I send quite a few things through the U.S. Mail, and generally I've been pretty happy with the results. I just thought this was interesting....

Yeah that's not unusual apparently. It's not really about distance per se but rather about processing and priority.

Here on the East coast I routinely get things from Europe faster than from California.

That's what i was thinking--how many packages are going to the east coast compared to how many packages are going to Switzerland? it's probably a lot easier to sort and find room on the transport vehicle

To go to the Swiss you must fly. To go to Maine they could drive it.
