Whether or not its a bad move probably depends on what you want out of life. Where I work, it would be a bad move.

My ex had dreds when I met her. It was like curling up with a brillo pad.

From what I've heard, dreads require a lot of management and can have a strong smell if you don't handle it properly. They're not something I want to try, but if that's your thing then go for it.

I dated a girl with dreads one time. What a pain in the butt they were. She spent more time messing with them then any other girl I have ever met.
It's not a hair style, it's a commitment.

Dreads in India will make you look very much like a sanyas (is that the right word)?
If that's the look you're going for, go for it.
I'm not much of a fan of dreads on people who are not of African descent - straight hair dreads differently (and generally less attractively).

I had dreads for a long time, just keep in mind your hair will be about half as long as it is now once it's in dreads.

I agree with this statement, but if it works for you go for it bro. Just know that the management of it will be very tedious.

Pics? You know, just so we can imagine if'n it would look good at all. I mean, if your gonna go thru the trouble, why not have the opinion of a bunch of internet bass players.

I made my dreads 8 years ago, went to the hair dresser and paid about 200 euro to get it done. Since then, I have had little or none management of them except for the first 3 months where I had to wax them way to often to call it fun, but when that was over, the rest is peanuts.

I wash them once every two months using a shampoo that really makes the hair dry in order to make the new grown hair stick together and marry the existing dreads, sometimes I dry them after showering using a hair drier to make it even "worse" (in this case, good).

The first picture is before I cut them this spring, and the other one after (they got way to heavy and was a pita to dry after washing, apart from that, they really looked cool).
