I wish we had cheap theaters here! I don't need five star quality to sit on my ass and watch a screen. Here in Australia we have the nice well kept cinemas (Hoyts) and the crap cinemas (Greater Union). And they both will charge you 11-12 bucks for a ticket.

the good cheap theater and the full price theater are ran by the same company, but the $1.50 you have to deal with sticky floors, and the cloud of smoke coming from the potheads, also within a week or two of a movie being played at the cheap theater it becomes available to rent or buy.

I just caught a movie today for $6.. I was kinda surprised, even with student rates it's around $10 at that theater for the showtime I went to. Maybe it's because I finally got one of their crazy little club card things, but I REALLY doubt that would cut the price nearly in half.

In Brisbane we have Birch Carrol and Coyle/Greater Union which charge around $10 for a student and some of the cinemas are just horrible (the one closest me has uncomfortable seats and tiny screens).

We do however have another chain called Cineplex or something they only have 4 locations (ones an old Imax) but all the cinemas are fantastic and cost only $5 for students. Its $11 for their Gold Class.

I think we have a few Cineplex's down here, but like you said they're not very common. I'll have to see where the closest one is now! I want $5 tickets! Hoyts did a trial of their "gold class" for a while in a few cinemas down here, I think it is gone now though. The prices were ridiculous.

They seem to be just called "Cineplex".

http://www.cineplex.com.au/

It doesn't look like that particular one has any near me. I remember there are 3 or 4 HUGE cinemas, or there were, I don't know if they are still around now. I'm not sure what they are/were called.

Pretty sure its a Brisbane only company. They started off with a couple old run down 2 screen cineams and completely redid them. You have to get there early because tickets will sell out.
