I went fishing for the first time today

Since Burk is no longer with us I fugred that we needed a fishing thread.

I'm on holiday in Tavistock, Devon with my girlfriend and her family. I went fishing with her father today, on the local river (Tavy).

We got out on the river at about 10am, and I fly-fished until about 2pm. From them I fished with a spinner and at 6pm I managed to catch my first fish which was a 1 pound 6oz sea trout. It was a good day, and I'm really happy that I caught a fish. I will post pics of me and my fish tomorrow!

Nothin' like fishing with the boys and a case of beer.

I fish all the time in the local lakes and rivers, but I'm really itching to get out on the ocean and catch HUGE that'll take me 2 hours to wrestle on board.

Nice. Glad you had luck. I'm a poor with a fly rod but enjoy it nonetheless.

Nice! I miss going fishing with my grandpa but unfortunately I will never get to again. I remember one time I had caught 10 big mouth bass's and a turtle. I need to break my pole and go, I haven't gotten to go in a while

I haven't been fishing in decades. One of the last times I went was with my Grampa. I cought a seriously ginormous catfish that I was sure was a world record.

I was pretty disappointed to discover that it was not only NOT the biggest catfish in the world, it wasn't even the biggest one caught in that lake, that summer.

But still, even so, a twelve year old catching a 112 lb fish OUGHT to be noteworthy. Or at least I thought so. Nobody else seemed to care much.

Fly fishing can be a lot of fun. Or very frustrating.
Would have been a cooler story if you caught a bass.
Wait- a big part of fishing is lying, so just change your story.

Freshwater fishing doesn't count.

Congrats on the first catch, anyhow.

Ive not been fishing in years, used to love going fly fishing. Still have a massive box of flies that I made way back when too

Good times , biggest trout I ever caught was almost 12lbs, a happy day that was. My dad hated going fishing with me, I always caught one more than him, or if we both only caught one, mine was always bigger

Good fun! Think it is something you will do again Toasted?

True. Here we do it in ditches with chicken fat and dirty socks for nets.

I like Devon. One of the best Yorkshire pudding I've ever tasted came from there. I also got really drunk there. One of the prettiest places in England IMO.
