With the exception of a recent Twilight Zone marathon, Syfy is really lacking. When we first got cable, I loved the programming. Now, not so much. |

I'd like them to run The Prisoner, old Dr. Who, UFO (the series,) Land of the giants, Lost in Space, The Twighlight Zone, Night Gallery, Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica, etc. What am I leaving out?

| | | | Farscape marked the end of an era on Sci-Fi. The word from on high from the execs of Sci-Fi was while Farscape did not make money due to high production costs (despite being spread across several networks) it made up in marque value. It showed Sci-Fi was a contender in producing quality television and allowed them to get a higher rate on advertising across the board making everything else they aired more profitable. In come the new management at Sci-Fi and poof, there goes Farscape, canceled as part of cost cutting measures in preparation for the sale of Sci-Fi to N.B.C./General Electric. After that you got a cheap dumping ground for low production cost shows and cheap movies. They have made a conscious effort to move away from niche (ie science fiction) programming to mainstream programming, hence the wrestling = cheap + mainstream. How ironic one of the most successful shows in several years for the network has been Battlestar Galactica. Being the highest rated show on the network while it aired the second most watched cable show of 2009.
Apparently some people still like science fiction.

I've been a sci-fi fan since I was a kid and would prefer actual science fiction on the SyFy channel. But if they can make money showing crap, that's obviously what they're going to do. I rarely watch it now. |

Now-a-days flipping through the channel its just seems to be craploads of b (more like x, y, and z) movies that I wouldn't even wanna watch s***-faced drunk.
Oh Sci-Fi channel, how I miss you...

I sort of steer clear of that channel now unless one of the programs stated above is on. Or its a marathon of star trek or twilight zone.

M.A.N.T.I.S. anyone??
Eureka and WH13 are OK, but still a bit shallow compared to Farscape and the like...
and ghostbusters or whatever is just "the Blair Witch" the series... LAME CITY!! |
