sorry folks. I just cannot wait until "HD" is a passe marketing term. So overused, so past its 15 minutes.

I mean 1st gen was 60hz refresh rate, then 120hz, now they are marketing 240hz. Is there gonna be a plateau, or just when HD is commonplace in every home are they gonna double that resolution and market yet another platform standard that everyine will feel inferior about if they don't own it that day? I mean, there's alot of people like that...you either know one, or you are one.

It is true that your visual acuity will improve in bright sunlight if you reduce the light level and restrict it to a narrow range of colors. But mainstream amber sunglasses already do these things. |

I mean we have DECADES upon DECADES of material being broadcast & rebroadcast to this day that is not even close to our current last generation resolutions, let alone HDTV. And only in the past few years have it become viable for even the lowly cable channels to shoot in High Def. Now this? Simply, in a word, stupid. Wasteful. Needless. It should sell like hotcakes.

| As far as HD goes, it's been a standard for over 20 years (shortly after CDs became mainstream). It wasn't until recently that Congress (and the FCC) forced HD upon us.
And it was way past due.
Right now, not everyone is seeing 1080p even if they have HD content being pushed at them. There are many reasons for this but mainly boils down to two. 1) The content wasn't shot at 1080p or 2) the transmission isn't in 1080p.
So even if you have this extra high resolution TV, you're still not seeing everything in 1080p. You may be seeing upscaled 1080p but it's not true 1080p so it's not as crisp.
Eventually your eyes will get used to seeing 1080p content and know the difference.
What this all boils down to is that yes, ultra HD is out there but 1080p and lower HD standards have been out there for decades.
It likely will be a decade... MINIMUM... before we see that ultra HD content.
I wouldn't worry about it.

All kidding aside, there is some science behind this. Different colors (wavelengths) focus at different distances from the lens in your eye. For one color to be in focus on your retina, others have to be focused slightly behind or in front of it, making them appear slightly blurry. By filtering out one end of the color spectrum, in this case the blue end, the band of frequencies that pass through the glasses is narrower. That allows them to be more closely in focus, so images appear sharper.
The downside is you will look like a tool with these cheezy shades.

The companies making money right now with the HD are already investing the money into more product R&D, just to keep up with the competition. At some point, HD will be obsolete, just like tube TV's start to be now - computer displays are already far over the HD pixel count.

Technology is starting to plateau, but i'm sure we will get higher resolutions still. But it's about the point of diminishing returns. The jump from VHS to DVD was huge, the jump from DVD to Blu-Ray is tiny in comparison (for example). Quote:

But again, these are nothing more than cheap toys really.

They think people will actually believe we're seeing less than HD now. That's as bad as HD radio. |
