.....If it wasn't for the presents and food.
i realy get sickened by the taciness and "christmas cheer" of the whole holiday. The whole meaning is now gone and it is much ado about nothing.
Do you people feel this? I do not have anything against the comercialism, maby because i'm jewish so i don't acknowledge jesus, but it is the tacky green and red ugly tree fat old man thing that i do not like.
I am sorry if it seems i am attacking chistmas but either make it into celebrating jesus's birth alone like it was meant for or making it a overtly commercial holiday with no realy meaning like valentines day thats all i say.
I think christmas should be more like in haloween town in the nightmare before christmas if you ask me :P
umm sorry for ranting and at least christmas spawns lots of helping of underprivileged people. |

There are many great things done this time of the year to help the less fortunate. Let's all take part in those things.

...i do think the gifts and food are a plus, but i don't even care about gifts that much nowadays, i just want money to help pay off my debt to my lawyer and such.

Sure there's plenty of commercialism and tackiness as well as manipulation, but that happens almost all the time.

Christmas has become more about the tradition of getting together with family for a big meal and exchanging gifts, decorating the tree and listening to Christmas carols. While I understand that the original intent of Christmas is all but lost these days, I don't exactly see non-devoute Christians celebrating Christmas as a problem. In fact, I enjoy it to a point, and will likely enjoy it much more when I have young children of my own, and I'm baptised and confirmed Roman Catholic. I can't exactly say I'm very religous, as I can't even rember the last time I went to church. Hmmm...it might have been last Christmas, or maybe Easter, and only because my wife drags me there. |

I in fact have alot of problems with organized religion, but I refuse to get into that here. BUT, I still believe in God, and in his teachings, and don't think for a second my prayers aren't being heard for sake of mass.
Don't matter to me if the cross is on the wall or on the roof, my beliefs are the same.

Mon | Right, I never meant to suggest that. I mean I'm not completely religous as I still don't know what I believe. I think I believe in something, but not sure what. |

It's a chance to get together with friends & family, buy things for them, and do things you normally wouldn't do throughout the year.
I like X-Mas!

Peace!
And Bruce, does that mean we won't be getting our Christmas Goose? Or was it ham? I forget that story... |

These things are nothing to do with Christianity and are more to do with old, Pagan, "mid-winter" celebrations!
It was just nice to have an excuse for a party in the middle of Winter when everybody is feeling low...going on well before Christianity!

Even though I don't believe. I enjoy the Christmas decorations, music, stories, gifts, and spending time with the family. It's a fun time of year and it's a welcome break from the day to day crap that happens all year long. I have a Christmas tree. I put up Christmas lights. I spend too much money on gifts for other people because it's fun. I have Christmas dinner. I hang my stocking by the chimney(with care). I've gone caroling.
I see it as a way to celebrate the history and traditions of my ancestors. You're right that it's a bit ridiculous considering my beliefs, but my family has always done these things and I'll continue doing them. I imagine my daughter will grow up doing the same thing. The way I see it, Christians should just be glad I'm not one of the nuts down at city hall protesting the "Holiday tree".
Plus, I get a couple paid days off from work. |
