Idiot Americans released from Iran

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok, so the two stupidest US citizens were released from Iran today. I hope they did not spend one nickel of my taxes on getting them out. Any US citizen dumb enough to hike for recreational purposes within 50 miles of the Iran border deserves to spend as much time in an Iranian prison as the Iranian authorities would like to sentence them to, IMHO. Maybe these two idiots would like to stroll along the North – South Korea border and see if the North Koreans are as hospitable as the Iranians.

Do you actually think it was a mistake?

I think they KNEW they were walking into Iran.

They may have, but it was reported that people working for the hotel they were staying at suggested the spot for good hiking.

Whether thats true or not, I havent the slightest, but it does sound fishy.

I'll take them at their word. I have no solid reason to call them liars.

If they weren't liars, they were, as I said, the two most stupid US citizens in the world. Exactly how long would you think about hiking the Iranian border before you decided it was a bad idea?

Haha. It didnt so much as repulse me, but more so the way you chose your words really opened the gate for someone to come along an very strongly pose a different viewpoint.

As in a viewpoint supporting extremely bad judgement and/or outright stupidity?

I'll admit, I was wondering if anyone would post something like "By God, they're Americans and they can walk anywhere they damn well want to!!"

hmm, a friend of mine from work used to visit Iran a lot, she had some cool holiday snaps from there. i guess things are a bit tougher for US visitors.

EDIT she's western (UK born and bred), not local...

Two of them are from this area so it has been a big deal in the news.
I have yet to hear a good explanation of what they were doing there.

I hope someone is at the airport to meet them with their SIGN!

Basic common sense.

Well, Im not calling you a troll, but your OP kinda comes off as a troll post, provoking a fight kinda post.

"Ok, so the two stupidest US citizens were released from Iran today."
You sure there arent any stupider?

"I hope they did not spend one nickel of my taxes on getting them out."
No, the only spent mine, and maybe Dr. Cheeses.

"Any US citizen dumb enough to hike for recreational purposes within 50 miles of the Iran border deserves to spend as much time in an Iranian prison as the Iranian authorities would like to sentence them to, IMHO."
But 51 miles would be alright?

"Maybe these two idiots would like to stroll along the North – South Korea border and see if the North Koreans are as hospitable as the Iranians."
Maybe they are?

Im kidding, of course, about my responses.

I hear what you are saying Matticus, and I know you are kidding to a degree. But I am simply overwhelmed by two things: #1 Their extremely poor judgement / or extreme stupidity, and #2 the media painting them to be innocent young American tourists. I have no love for the radical government of Iran, but I can't fault them for throwing these dumbasses in jail. I know they were trying to use them for political gain, and that is not right either.

I guess I present things a little more like Sam Kennison than Ann Curry or Matt Lauer. But you'll never wonder where I stand on an issue.
