How much would you hate me?

My friend's getting married on Friday, and I've tried to tie a tie about a thousand times now, and it just isn't happening. I swear it's actually impossible.

Clip on, zipper tie, or have someone else tie it for you.

Four years of college, and I had to tie the ties for two of my four roommates.

if you are standing with me then i would have to kick the $%^& out of you. if you are just attending then whatever. as long as you look decent.

as long as you are wearing clothes appropriate to being at a church im ok with it.

basically no track suit or shorts no jeans or t-shirts.

Watched a few videos, got people to show me how to do it. I'm doing exactly what they're showing me but it doesn't work! I think someone booby-trapped the tie.

Also, I don't have any part in the wedding, I'm just attending.

if you google "how to" the first auto-finish that comes up is "how to tie a tie."

just saying.

I'm right there with you. I tried lots of times to learn how to tie one. I can never get it, even following the videos. I just get someone to tie one, then it never gets undone. Just loosen the knot so you can slip it over your head

I suggest a zipper tie. It is easy to remove when you are in a tight space with a hot bridesmaid.

dude, the quick and easy. do it just as I say, NOT in front of a mirror.

Put tie around back of neck, skinny end over right shoulder. This end should go no lower than your nipple. A little above is better.

Take the larger end, and wrap it around the front of and then behind the back of the skinny end, then full around the front again, NOT letting it twist at all during the process. Stop at the back, holding it in place. Take two fingers from your free hand, (preferably the left hand) and separate the front-most wrap layer so there is a gap, and then pass the large end, from the back, over the top, from behind, then THROUGH the gap you just made.

Then, take the back, skinny tab, and pull down in place a bit as you slide the knot up...straighten out accordingly. Fold your collar down. The end length result will vary, dependent if you're pudgy or not. The end should hit just above your slacks button.

Not the best knot, but one you can totally get away with if you're 25 or younger.

Glad I'm not the only one! I don't understand why I can't do it, or rather, how other people can do it

That's the one I've tried and been shown. I don't know what goes wrong with it but it just ends up either untying itself somehow, or like I've literally just tied it into a knot like a shoelace.

Tying a tie is one of those things you just have to do over and over again to get good at. If I can tie a tie, anyone can do it. If Howard Gardner came up with a psychometric to measure spatial intelligence, I'd have an IQ of 15.

Are you in the wedding, or just attending? If the former, you have 4 days to resolve this problem, if the latter, forego the tie.

I'm just attending, thankfully. If I was in the wedding I wouldn't be asking this question, I'd just get someone else to tie the tie!

Last time I went to a formal occasion I went in a pair of shorts and a tie, no shirt.

Apparently when they said to wear a tie, they meant wear a suit and tie. I guess I take things far to literally.
