Then a²=ab
a²+a²=a²+ab
2a²=a²+ab
2a²-2ab=a²+ab-2ab
2a²-2ab=a²-ab
2(a²-ab)=1(a²-ab)
which simplifies to 2=1... first person to point out my mistake gets a cookie

in your second step after the given, you said a squared plus a squared equals a squared which equals ab. The equation is no longer balanced: makes no sense.

then two steps down, you added 2ab to one side, but subtracted it from the other side. But then again, the next step is written as if it were done correctly. Nothing's making sense..
