Man, the past 2 years have sucked...big time! 1st, wife has severe withdrawals from painkillers, so we have to have her go through detox. That was $12k out of pocket. 2nd, we find out that we can't have kids the conventional way and have to do in-vitro. That was $40k out of pocket and the first attempt didn't take. Neither of these things were covered by insurance. 3rd, due the failing real estate market, my job is cut in February. I thought at the time, no big deal, I'll land somewhere else in no time (I'm a real estate developer). Well 6 months later and I'm still looking. 4th, I finally get a job offer a couple weeks ago. I was supposed to start this past Monday and I get a call last week from the guy saying they've decided to not fill the position because of poor market conditions...really??? Right before I'm supposed to start?!?! And lastly, we get an e-mail from our landlords today asking us to break our lease early, as in right away. Seems their primary residence is going to be foreclosed due to job loss so they want us out so they can move back in. I'm trying to keep my chin up through all of this, but come on already!

Perhaps you've managed to avoid passing your wife's genetic predisposition towards addiction on at a time when you're at an economic lowpoint with your housing situation looking unstable.

We've each gotten short-term work here and there, but the full-time jobs seem to dry up and blow away right when one of us is about to land one. The ones that are available pay peanuts. We're on our second mortgage, and that money is almost gone. |

I just pray the Lord will bless both of your families with new jobs and money to pay your bills on time.
Rich, it should be within your legal right to stay in your home if you have a lease. I would look it over really good to make sure there is not some loop hole where they can kick you out. The other option is to tell them you will sell the remainder of the lease back to them. |

Also just to clarify, my wife suffers from a condition call IC (Interstitial Cystitis) and was on a prescribed dose of 2mg of morphine daily. That in itself is a very low dosage and my wife is not one to take any kind of pill, so it was a stuggle at times to get her to take it as prescribed. Anyway, when we decided to start a family, the doctor assured us that such a small dose wouldn't harm the baby. We weren't willing to take that chance and after much research, my wife decided she would stop the med until after childbirth. What followed was a very scary and painful withdrawal, even from such a small dose. To see what she was going through killed me, so we found a place that does a rapid detox, done under anesthesia so you go through all of the withdrawals while under. It's a pretty amazing procedure and worth every penny we spent. Needless to say, she no longer takes morphine for the discomfort from IC. She said that discomfort pales in comparison to what she felt during withdrawal. Definitely not a pre-disposition to addiciton

Once you get the health issue covered, keep your chin up and keep looking for a work.It may not be easy but give your wife a kiss whenever you feel bad about it.
Hope things work out for you.I'll send you some positive energy from Istanbul.

The market is much better in Texas and we have some family & friends in Houston & San Antonio. My wife's sis has offered to open her home to us in Houston while we get situated and secure employment.
I'm waiting to hear back about a job on the east coast of FL and should hear back from them in the next few days.Otherwise, it's off to Texas mid Sept.

I was unemployed for a couple of months. At the end of last month, I was strapped for cash and my lease ends Sept 1st. I figured I might as well plan on moving back to the midwest, if I was going to go back to working retail I might as well do it back where housing was cheaper. And Vegas is really drying up, with the lack of people with extra money to throw down the drain. Sure enough, a week after I had started making plans to move I received a call from a company that I had completely forgotten I had applied to. After a short interview and a couple of days later, I landed myself a job. I was so close to losing everything (I didn't have much in savings), but at the right moment I was saved.
Things happen when you least expect them. I'm sure you'll see some good news soon enough. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
