If you had a gay child how would respond to teachers trying to "straighten" him/her? If I was in this situation I would make it very clear to the school my kid was in that this is tottaly out of line and not constructive.

I would advise to the teacher directly to stop, if not, the principle. The school board would be next as well as media outlets if my child so wanted to go that route.
Schools are businesses that make money, they have no right to teach anything other than the subject matter and a life lesson every once in a while.

Seems broad. I could potentially be anything from thankful to outraged depending on the context.

The teacher was fired for refusing to accept a paper on equal rights for gay & lesbian couples. The counselor was fired for telling a student's parents that they needed to send their son to a reeducation camp to make him not gay anymore.

And that's just being rational.
An other thing that can be done is start a lawsuit for psychological assualt. And make sure the teacher(s) lose their job. |

(1) How would a teacher "straighten" out a student? By mocking them? Trying to set them up with other students of the opposite sex? I can't think of any actions on a teacher's part that wouldn't be considered unacceptable whether applied to a gay or straight student.
(2) I coached or taught over 2000 kids in my seven years as a teacher. Though my friend Diane had it happen far more often, both of us experienced students coming out to us. And what nearly all of them had in common was that they were seniors. Many other students that we suspected were gay didn't come to terms with it until college or after. The point is, even if people around them see signs, most kids don't realize they are gay until they are nearing the end of their time in school anyway. How can you "straighten" someone who doesn't even realize they are gay?
(3) Most importantly, I believe without a doubt that being gay is not a choice and not something a kid can "choose" not to be. Therefore, there isn't a way to have it "straightened" out of them. |

I know there's some funny **** in here somewhere, but I'm having trouble pinpointing it. In the meantime, despite thebigo's view on it, I fully endorse the mocking of all children regardless of race, religion or sexual orientation. It doesn't leave bruises and it builds character.

Mike | I didn't say I was against it, only that it was deemed unacceptable. I recall a closed door meeting with my principal after I informed a particularly annoying senior girl in my C period that she would drive her future husband to drink. |

I'll stop there.
