On this forum I see expensive basses get occasionally panned, and I see really cheap basses occasionally lauded as amazing (give or take a few tweaks). You get the conservative Fender players, the diehard Rick and Gibson fans, the vintage collectors and the guys who love the coffee table basses as well. The rule of thumb appears to be that there is no rule of thumb.
