If you were a computer tech, would you go on a killing spree?

Sign in to disble this ad
If you were(are) a computer tech, or had(have) some job that kept(keeps) you on a computer all day, would(have) you go(gone) on a killing spree?

I've been trying to find music for a playlist for the last two hours and in that time my computer has decided to freeze up twice. I have to admit that few things in life have ever inspired that kind of anger in me before. I don't think I could stay sane dealing with these digital devils all day. I probably wouldn't actually go on a killing spree, but I sure would cause some damage!

P.S. If this thread has been done before, please fill out a thorough report and mail it to:

No ..... but after 20 years as a Field Service Engineer for DEC, and 8 years as a Systems Analyst at an ISP, I understand exactly how you feel.

Computers are mean and spiteful contrivances. The true spawn of Satan.

I works as a Systems Specialist.
Just point me in a particular direction and yell "KILL!" and you will see carnage.
Lots of carnage.
Chunks and mounds of it.
Tons even.
Yeah.
Or not.

That post, along with your avatar, username, and the short sentence under your name(can't remember the word for it), paints a very funny picture.

No...unless by that you mean systematically executing the printer and fax machine before having a water gun fight in the server room....and there are a few clients whose offices I would drive long distances too, in order to hand deliver flaming poop bags.

I've been doing the computer tech thing for a few years now and some silicon has flown in the face of my rages, but killing sprees aren't really my style.

I think I cope by being an alcoholic.

I don't see why sitting at a desk, picking up the phone and telling people to restart their computers all day would cause one to go on a killing spree, but I could be wrong.

My biggest difficulty is deciding whether to direct the rage toward the equipment or toward the end users.

I use up to five computers simultaneously in my job. Get a few blue screens, every now and then. But that doesn't anger me I just restart it and away we go.

I guess I'm just spoiled at my job. If I want my hammer to swing, it does so immediately. Then, when I click "End Now" on a computer, I have unrealistic expectations.

I'm fine as long as I have my coffee. If I don't get my coffee and someone calls me to tell me that they can't print. I get stabby.

Yeah that about sums it up. Even my students know not to mess with me if I haven't had my coffee.

You have to understand that you are (I'm hopeful) smarter than the computer. You understand that it's trying to provoke you. It tempts you with porn then freezes at shall we say inopportune moments. You almost sniped that sweet Ibanez with the Hummel appliques when the connection locks. You're logged onto Tickethamster and procured the last tickets for Britney's next tourstop and it confirms your VIP box at "Shrek on Ice" instead. Hey, how did that hammer get on my desk?

Don't do it. You're smarter and you must rise above it. Besides, if you kill it, how will you ever help all of those people on the web who are wrong?

I have found that FPS games are a great way to go on "harmless" killing sprees. There's countless free ones now-a-days, google it up.
