Illusion: How many circles do you see?

Spoiler below in white:

There are sixteen circles. I only saw the four on the right, before I was told of the full amount.

Here is a site that sponsors a yearly illusion contest:

There are several cool eye tricks there. Do you have a favorite?

I saw 16 straight away and find it hard to see any more or less...

What's the illusion...?

16, then I blinked and they were gone, then I blinked and they came back. Nice!

Some people only see squares, or in my case, mostly squares.

Looks like I'm a square, or at least 75%.

I think that might have been the case if I just glanced at it - but as the text said "how many circles" - I started off looking for them and I found them right away.

I too saw 16 immediately, and only by squinting can I make them disappear. But i can understand how for some folks my squint is their default, so I understand how/why it's an optical illusion. Or a perceptual illusion.

I saw them right away, then I looked again and they were gone. It took effort to see them the second time.

I did not saw the circles at first.

I guess my priority is to make sense of the picture, to know how I can place the portrayed ojects.
It looked like carved woodwork in some antique furniture... with that in mind it was hard to notice circles.

Only when I read the OP that there were 16 I knew where to look for them... the only place 16 the same objects could be in that picture.

Would you say you're genetically predisposed to squares instead of circles

LOL

No it's not like that.
I just make the choice not to see circles in any given picture.

I admit sexually I like rubenesque women, but I fight the urge not to see circles and curves everywhere to feed my imagination.

Unlike all you perverts.

"Circles"? . . . None of course. Just rows of squares and nothing else.

+1. I really tried to make them go away, but they won't disappear. They stand out like Muhammad Ali at a KKK-convention.

I was able to see them all without an issue. I would have seen them if you hadn't mentioned that there were suppposed to be circles.

Squares at first, but was eventually able to make my mind see the circles. The center-right column was the hardest for me to actually see. If you hadn't told me they were there, I never would have found them.
