I'm getting separated, should I bring the cat?

Sign in to disble this ad
Too much arguing, I took a new 1 bedroom place and have stuff in it already. Probably going to sleep there on Friday as my first night.

Should I bring the cat? I'm man enough to say I love cats, but in the near future I will have ladies coming over and although I love "Cujo", I think I love women more. Some may find it a turn off, while others won't?

I'm not sure what to do.

I should mention that my daughter (19 months) has not shown any great affinity for the cat, although I fear she may miss him. Also, I know the cat has his routine etc...If I take him, I can always bring him back.

A cat might not enjoy being in a one room apartment too much if it's used to living somewhere bigger.

Women love cats, why would they be turned off by you having one?

The cat is going from 2 Bed 2 bath 1125 sqft, to a 1 bed, about 650 sq feet.

That's not too much of a change. I say you give it a try, since you can always give the cat back if you want.

Plus, coming home to a little pussy on those nights you dont get a girl back to your pad will be infintely more rewarding. I know cats can be independent and have less "dumb loyalty" than a dog, but when you have one that appreciates you it does wonders towards cheering you up.
This.

I'm feeling that I might be really lonely actually. I'm leaving my baby at home and feel sad. I think I need a friend and he's the only family I got right now, sadly to say.

Ive never had a cat hiss at new people. I have two right now, and they exhibit completely opposite behaviors in regards to new people in our house, and in all my years Ive only seen my cats act one of these two ways towards strangers.

1) Avoids new people, runs off upstairs and keeps an eye from a distance. As their comfort towards a new person increases the cat will slowly approach, closing the distance they once kept. The cat may never be completely comfortable with this new person and keep a distance, or might warm to them and come nearer for smelling, allowing the person to pet them briefly.

2) Is an absolute whore for attention. This cat will approach damn near anybody and will act no differently towards strangers than they do to myself.

Confused.....

Your leaving the child, but concerned about the cat?

I'm going to be close and will still come over for dinner several times a week and spend time with her on the weekends.

Believe me, I'm not leaving by choice - but my bipolar wife has gone off the chain.

Putting the rejection of people or 'things' that couples collect aside, is this an indoor kitty? You want to take it with you, right?

The transition would have the kitty missing the old haunts, or mommie for awhile. Otherwise, the cat needs a roof, and a familiar face is a good thing.

Sorry about the circumstances, and I sure hope that things are moving toward peaceful resolution for all concerned.

*shudder*.. this is how my nasty divorce got started years ago. The "trial run" separation sorta thing? Brings back bad memories. Though my ex was severely bipolar.
Take the cat. Just take it, I don't even really want to explain why.

Do you really want to spend time on women who don't like animals? Seems like a good filter to me.

Cuz it might end up dead on the porch one day...

Or you might come home to what seems to be a delicious stew on the stove that you dont remember starting before you left for work...
