I have to confess

My wife bought me bass lessons for xmas, but I swapped them for... cello lessons. Three weeks in and I love it so far. Bass is unloved in the corner. So I'm now hiring a cello, when I got it out my wife said "oh, I thought it would be bigger than that" yea, not for the first time.

possible name change to jacqueline4string or YoYo4string on the horizon.

Nice one

I really fancy taking up either Cello or Double Bass at some point. No shame in playing another instrument more, i have to admit, ive been playing guitar quite alot more than bass recently

You're not an imposter. You are a TRAITOR! Off with your head!

Nah, the cello is a really cool instrument. I wish I had the patience to learn how to play one. Good luck with it but don't forget your bass!

(Hmm, I think I'll go put on some Apocalyptica now. )

I saw YoYo Ma locally last year.

That guy is a bassisit's dream. Focus. Technique. Feeling.
TONE.

It's still the Low End. Stick around and let us know how you make out.

And to paraphrase the DB Dragon League: GET A TEACHER!
Though you said you did.

I considered DB, and my mother in law suggested it, but there isn't teacher locally, and I have a tiny car.

My cello teacher was principal cellist for the Bournemouth Symphony. He's inspirational.

cello is just a sort of short scale bass, so no treason there

Cello, bass, sax, all good choices.

I used to play cello, then when I took up the bass, I found that I really was better than I thought I'd be, likely because of my previous experience with cello.

I still want to learn to play cello. A girl in my dorm has one, I've played around with it enough that I can kinda get the intonation worked out and get a pleasing sound out of the thing. Still having difficulty coming to terms with tuning in fifths though.

If worse comes to worse, buy a bass, and tune it in 5ths!
