It was over 100 degrees today and that is forecast to continue and the A/C is on the fritz. Will got to Walmart tomorrow to buy a window unit for the wife's office and we may end up sleeping in there till the central air is fixed. Hopefully it will be something not too expensive.

This happened last summer, our A/C was working, but it wasn't putting out cool air. We ended up borrowing 20 something fans and placing them all around the house.

I can empathise BB, I lived in Phoenix for 7 years, lost my air twice during summer, absolutely miserable thing in a hot climate. Best of luck, and hopefully it's something small.

How's that considered "working"?

I'll swap you for some nice Newcastle wet weather....it's currently absolutely pouring it down here and it's unlikely to stop any time soon.

Well, *your* annual range isn't -38 to 108, at least.

I have both chemical hypersensitivity and a reactive airway so I always have masks and respirators with me. It was not too bad in the house but I still need to clean up. When I stepped into the closed garage for a minute my eyes instantly felt like they were full of grit. My car was outside and it is a mess.

I'm just glad to have shelter. Going through stuff like that while living in the car really stinks. Of course it is even worse for those on the streets. Right now the banks of the River Charles look pretty appealing.

It was running, as in, it would put out air, but it wasn't cool.

Would love some cloudy rainy weather, we are in a serious drought, 4th of July fireworks were cancelled statewide, you can't even rub 2 dry cliches together without starting a wildfire.
This is the hottest driest summer in over 100 years.

Coolness returns! Turned out to be a blown capacitor for the outside unit, part was $37.50, had to go to 4 supply houses to find the right one, but could do the job myself saving 3-400 bucks. "John the Freeze" one of my band mates helped me diagnose the problem over the phone.

Having a band mate that does HVAC work pays off once again, good songwriter, decent guitarist and a monster vocalist to boot. He also makes tasty home made wines out of persimmons of all things.

This has been home fix-it week, started out installing a new kitchen faucet that was anything but a simple job as the hot water cutoff broke when turned off, small flood b4 the hot water got shut off. No way I could reach that so out comes the sink.... any way it was a 2 day ordeal b4 that was finished only then to have the A/C fritz out. Fixed that (see above). Installed a new Shower head and remembered needing to relight Hot Water Heater, those things scare me, read instructions 4 times tried & failed about a dozen times and wuz about to call a plumber but googled instructions and found a video on eHow, oh that's where the pilot light is, doh, got it the 1st time. Each time I tried to light the pilot my wife was standing by with water hose and phone just in case, did I mention that those things scare me.
To day I can chill enjoy the cool, take a nice long warm shower and see what happens next........

What's AC? I've lived in a 100+ year old house my entire life and never needed AC. If your smart about when you have windows open and blind use, there is no need for such a contraption.

Heck, there's no insulation in my 2nd story bedroom and it never really gets unbearable. Oh and it hits 100F for at least a week during the summer here

Er.. where do you live?

Because here is summer we get 30+ degrees (C) and 90-95% humidity. You can't sleep because your entire body is drenched in sweat, and so is anything you touch, your too hot inside, its too hot outside and its RAINING!. If you leave the windows open, everything goes mouldy. Food, clothes, Everything.

Was a big change from where I used to live, which was 40+ degrees in summer with about 0% humidity You sure wouldn't want to live there without an AC either. Open the windows there and all you'll get is a 45 degree breeze that will take any moisture right out of you, straight off the desert.
