I'm running for office

Sign in to disble this ad
as a write in candidate for precinct committeeman in my town.
I'm pretty sure I'm running un-opposed but as a write-in I still need 10 votes to win. There's about 900 people in my precinct. So far I've got about 5 without doing anything but registerring. Mine, wife, son, and another couple down the street who I'm told would write me in to support me when informed I'd be running.
I got a call one day from a guy holding similar views as mine and was trying to get a few other like minded people to run in their particular precinct.
Any other political hopefuls?

Not this time around, but I've thought about it. I'm probably too honest about what I think though.

I did it ~20 years ago. Town council. Ran twice, elected twice.

Maybe in the future, just a little too young and too ignorant at the moment.

Awesome that you're taking a position to help out the public. What exactly would your duties be?

Not 100% sure but it has to do with deciding who everyone will be voting for. Like, picking the people who will be on a ballot. Also elecition judge fill-in (yawn). A few other misc., but there's supposed to be a meeting once a month which I figure shouldn't take too much of my time.
I've never been too political, but the more money I make the more I'm wondering where it all goes. Just trying to get involved a bit more really.

You need to assassinate your opponent. Do it like the Russians and North Koreans do.

I've been a Precinct Delegate for about eight years, but I've never had opposition when I've run. The other political party outnumbers mine in the precinct about three to one, and as I understand they have some knock down-drag outs. I'm not sure I'm going to have time to do it this fall.

Just remember this years candidates are running for "Hope and Change". So being anti-hope won't get you anywhere, That was the platform I ran on last time. And most of these candidates claim to have made so much change that they don't even need help from the Cash registers at Burger King to figure out what you've got coming back!

My favorite candidate just pulled out. So I'll consider. Are you for change? Hope? Or New Ideas?

Also as a platform plank can I suggest an asian girl for every household?

These are good suggestions. I'm for all those things as well as sexy asian chicks. I'm also for pork AND beans because I think this is a bipartisan issue that should not be split by party lines.

You mean absentee ballot. Even though you're French, I'd be inclined to let you in on this one.

Some countries prefer their leaders that way. I think you meant this guy:

HAVANA, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Cuban leader Fidel Castro was re-elected as a deputy to the National Assembly of the People's Power, head of the National Election Commission said Monday.

Castro, who has been convalescing from intestinal hemorrhage for 17 months, was among the 614 deputies to the National Assembly and 1,201 deputies to the provincial assemblies chosen in Sunday's legislative elections, Maria Reus who is also justice minister told a press conference.

I'll never run for anything. I have worked for 5 elected officials... that's enough for me.

I think running for office is a worthy public service, and at the local level it usually is public service, not ego-boosting. I put a lot of time into public service, but not in a publicly elected role.
