It works great. I use it all the time. I can convert DVD's for my old 30GB video as well as the new iTouch.

But as your friend mentioned, you will need to decrypt it first. Plenty of tools out there for that as well. I use DVD Decrypter.

I use "dvd shrink" to backup all of my dvd's into my hard drive.

yes, that's how it would work... but usually putting something on your hard drive from a disk is called "ripping", and putting something onto a cd from your hard drive is called "burning".

on my mac i use Handbrake to rip dvds and convert them to .avi/.mpg, all with one program... i'm sure there's probably some windows equivalent.

Sorry to hijack the thread a little here but... How much space would your average 2hr film take up?

200 mb, but it really depends on the quality, HD DVD's take up a lot more space

Couple things: Any commercial DVD is encrypted and will need to be decrypted. DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypt will do that. You rip it onto your hard drvie. Then you point a converter at it, and convert to the file type of your choice. 200mb for a 2 hr movie seems AWFULLY small to my experience. The tools Videora and Handbrake can do this part, and they have profiles set up to match your type of iPod.

Finally, after you have what you want, where you want it, you MUST go back and delete the ripped DVD file, which is 4 gb, sitting somewhere on your PC!

I agree about the size being small. Most of my videos are 500MB or so.

Good call on the reminder. I made a folder for the decrypted DVD's so I could keep track and promptly delete them when I was done.
