Sign in to disble this ad
I bought an IMac last weekend and the wife and I are just getting used to it after a decade of PCs. I have a couple of basic questions (no not Garage Band - haven't even gone there yet!):
1) Is there no drop down menu off the address bar like on PCs where you can just pick an address you have previously visited or do you always have to use your bookmarks?
2) Is there no autofill for usernames on log on pages?
3) On a PC you can have 3 or 4 explorer windows open can you not do that with Safari on IMac?
Pretty basic questions I know but we have not solved them yet. Thanks for any directions we get!!

If you want to keep using Safari, go into Safari's preferences and there's a tab for autofill. Check all the stuff you want to autofill for. |

Most webpages have a remember me toggle which sets a cookie for autofill. Safari is the only one i know with an autofill preference.
Alll browsers will open multiple windows or tabs.

as for the drop down menu, i guess you get used to it.. or simply use Firefox.

| | | | I use Safari most of the time. Works great no problems.
It's work installing firefox for the odd site that Safari screw up. Opera is nice too, but Safari integrates best with the Mac environment - for obvious reasons. It's UI and general behaviour make up for the minor features that are missing.

Pretty basic questions I know but we have not solved them yet. Thanks for any directions we get!! | By the way, to open a new link in a new tab with safari at least, just od the CMD key and click on the link.
You can have as many open window as you want, but I find that not very practical on the mac, since there is no address bar on the bottom of the screen.
To see what is open just hit F3 and you will see all your windows that are open.

I've been using the latest Beta version of Firefox - works awesome. I found the scrolling is faster for some reason than Safari.

A cool keyboard shortcut I found is command+option(alt)+shift+Q will close all open apps and log you out. I still ahven't found a shortcut way to "lock" the Mac to the login screen, other than using the mouse and click the top right screen icon for login window. Anyone know?

In no way has the security of Safari been compromised, and Safari is completely compatible with Paypal.
