They really did one heck of a job knocking off the Benchmade 630. To cheap to use Titanium, I guess they think G10 is just as strong I'm no longer involved with Benchmade but this is still aggrivating

Dirty rotten bastids!!

The dude selling that knife better add in that the $100 bill is not included before someone tries to get him on it.

So, like, these people jacked your design and then manufactured an inferior quality knife with out giving you credit for the design or asking your permeation for the use you said design? Dude, if I were you I would shank them in the thigh. That sure would teach them a lesson.

FL,

I just visited your blackwood site for the first time and WOW! I wouldn't mind having a couple of those, but:
1) I'd probably need to sell off some gear to pay for that kind of quality
2) Canadian Customs would probably frown upon seeing this kind of stuff come into our peaceful, friendly country

If stealing designs and using inferior materials is bugging you, then Leo Fender should be rolling over in his grave!!! hahaha.

Hopefully, a savy shopper will recognize bad materials/workmanship...and make the right choice.

Maybe Benchmade should do like Rickenbacker...and sue the pants off ever single copycat...thereby keeping the number of ripoofs to a minimun!!!

FL....You make great looking knives!

^What this guy said...^

That sucks man, don't let it bug you. Like everyone else said, there's no substitute for good quality. This knife will be broken within 6 months of purchase, and they'll have to go out and get something to replace it. They wont buy this product again.

These jerk faces will be out of business soon enough...

That's about all I can do. All popular knife designs get knocked off, this is just the first time for me

kissmybASS01, yes, Canadian customs is horrible. Probably THE worse in the world. I've shipped knives to war zones, and third world countries without the problems that Canadian customs creates. There are several Canadian knife collectors that pick up all their purchases several times per year at shows in the US.

Thanks Masher!!

A cheaply built, knockoff bass won't cut your fingers off if it fails. I'm not worried about the knockoffs cutting into my business. It's the fact that they are using my design right down to the smallest details.........other than using G10 instead of titanium for the frame

I think some people of lesser intelligence will be mislead by the $100 in the picture that it's an awesome knife. Clever sort of advertising, really. He knows how to tend to the sheep.

But yeah, that sucks that someone is copying you. Maybe you need to place one inside of him somewhere so he understands how inferior his is.

So do you still have any legal rights to the design or is it out there for people to do with as they please?

It reminds me of someone that I met on a training course who told me that some guy in china ordered a huge amount of stock from his company. They manufactured steel work to build enclosures for the electrical industry. Anyway, turns out this guy from china then setup a factory banging out knock offs of the stock that he had originally bought. I don't think there was too much the company could do about it either unfortunately.

Neil,

Probably none of our business, but did you license Benchmade to build these guys or did you sell the design to them?

The way I see it, if you sold the design, take this as flattery, but there's nothing you can do.

If you licensed the design to Benchmade and you still own the rights to the design, unfortunately, being in China, once again, there's nothing you can do.

Either way, take it as a compliment. Even a copy of the copy of your design looks great

That gets really complicated. As I mentioned before, it certainly won't affect my custom knife business. With all the buzz it's generated on the various knife forums, it might even help in a strange, round about way I'm sure one of my wiseazzed customers will send me one for my birthday

I think I'd rather have my finger cut off than play a crappy bass!

Hey wait...aren't you the Unholy Evil second only to Hitler who clonked Sal Glesser over the head in a dark alley and pinched his Spyder hole?

At least, that's what I read on a certain knife forum...
