'importing' or at least buying from Canada to the US Customs Fees

Incoming would be valued around $500 - assuming that I have to pay, roughly how much. I was up late reading the tariff doc's last night and to say it is confusing would be an understatement... Actually, confusing is probably not the right word -poorly documented, now that is a word I can get behind ...

No idea how it works that way, but here you have to pay 5% GST plus brokerage fees if it is shipped anything but post.

are the goods made in nafta countries.....if not duty may apply.....check with your buyer....he may be set up to self broker.....ups/fedex brokerage fees here are a rip, considering it's just a matter of filling in a form..in canookistan the customs people collect the fed/prov taxes based on their valuation ...best to go on line and check with us customs as they may do things differently.....

I've purchased Canadian goods (Sheldon Dingwall) and due to nafta had no duties, extra taxes, etc.

Under 20$ is usually not taxed/brokered

Also the different fees % and all is all available online here, it varies from the type of goods, where it was made, new or used etc... Maybe you guys have something similar?

For the record I had to pay 150$ on 450$ wheels (bad bad bad surprise!), 50$ on a 415 for used electronics (camera and stuff). And never had to pay anything for small things under 20$, even those coming from china. Once I paid 15$ for some bicycle tires...the actual fee was 5$ but fedex charges you 10$ because they took care of it...

I bought a vintage Japan-made bass from Canada at a value of 400 dollars.

It was claimed as a gift on customs. I didn't pay anything for it. It was held up in customs for over a week, but I never paid any extra fees,.

The bass in question is a CIJ Mustang. Did that bass come to you insured for the $400 ?

you can self broker and save the fees, but not the taxes.....but if yoou don't live close to the customs shed the fuel cost might just void any saving self brokering would offer....

And it may screw you if there's a loss or damage claim.
