IndyCar Races

We've got the NASCAR thread on here, but no open wheel lovers? I'll admit my company doesn't sponsor an open wheel driver, so I don't follow too closely, but who's a fan of these purebred racing machines?

Favorite drivers and why?

I just booked two tickets to see the inaugural Baltimore Grand Prix with my brother in September. Will be my first IndyCar race, but not my first. Seen my share of NASCAR races in the past.

I don't follow it at all, but I won trackside tickets to the Toronto Indy in 2009 and Paul Tracy crashed less than 15 feet from me. It was cool, but I wouldn't buy tickets.

I live 2 miles from the Indy 500. I'm tired of hearing it every year, and the mass amount of awesome people it brings to town.

When it was still CART I caught a few races in Portland. I liked Juan Montoya and Alex Zanardi at the time, especially watching Montoya in a bad handling car one year.

Also went to a few US Grands Prix at Watkins Glen, and some Formula 5000 ones at Lime Rock. I watch F1 regularly, might go to Austin eventually if the track proves to be decent. I'm not hip on street circuits at all, save Monaco. Could be fun once though, I reckon...

I watch F1 regularly, but not too much Indy. I am a fan of Simona de Silvestro however. I enjoy watching the races on TV, but most of the time they're on at the same time as NASCAR/Football/Hockey.

I have to say, their switch to double file restarts definitely seemed to make it interesting in St Petersburg. Will see how that shapes the rest of the season.

Next Friday I'm going to practice/qualifying day at Long Beach. That is a blast.

Last year (the GP's first as an IndyCar event) I got to attend the main race day as well. It was fun and would be on my schedule again this year but my soccer team has a game that day.

I enjoy wandering through the paddocks and checking out the cars being worked on up close. And there are often other fine things to check out.
