InkJet or Laser?

Sign in to disble this ad
For what it's worth, I know the advantages and disadvantages of each. My old all-in-one HP Photosmart is on it's last legs and I'm looking for a wireless printer to replace it.

Since I'm not working much from home these days, I don't believe I need the speed or heavy-dutyness of the laser. I've got a color laser in the office if necessary. For home use, I believe another HP Photosmart would be fairly ideal.

Any reason I should opt for a B&W Brother laser over the all-in-one HP Inkjet? I've loved the convenience of the all-in-one. Is there any reason I should go for the laser now?

The 02 cartridge packs from Hp seem affordable (more then the others) if you're going the photosmart way.

I also have an all-in-one HP Photosmart that is a couple years old now but it works wonderfully. I suggest getting another

Ink costs a LOT more than toner when you break it down 'per print'... and ink is a LOT slower.
(keep in mind it's been a while since I compared the 2... and I know a lot can change in a short period of time)

I wouldn't waste my time or money on an ink based printer personally.

[edit]
If you are looking for photo printing... sure, go for it

I actually print very little on the home printer, so the cost-per-print would not make much of a difference, especially when you consider the higher initial cost of the laser.

Other than the cost-per-print, and speed, is there another reason I should consider the laser?

I don't know if it still does that now, but is your ink going to dry? (or Actually the ink on the printing heads) if you really don't use it that often? Some times ago, I remember that was a problem.

edit: Also if I remember correctly Hp has their printing heads on the cartridge, they were the only ones doing that back when I followed that stuff.

infrequent printing can lead to dried up ink when you do need to use it... but no, it sounds like the all in one inkjet is the best thing for your needs. Stick with HP, they seem to hold up the best / longest from what I've seen over the years.

HP ink tanks come with new print heads attached to them... with most other brands and the 'refill' kits dried ink is a bigger issue.

I print enough to keep it for drying... just a few pages a week though...

Quick question... with the wireless printers, will the scanner work wirelessly as well?

thanks for making the "Staples Business Machines" sales guy in me resurface... I really thought I killed him off

Yes, a wireless 'all-in-one' should scan over wifi.... if not, it should at least scan to memory card and transfer to the computer.

James, thanks for the help... I'll probably be picking one up soon.

Merry Christmas BTW!

It's been like 5 years since I worked there... I still shudder as I walk in the door as a customer.
