Interesting dinner encounter

So tonight my wife, daughter and I went to dinner with some close friends over in Del Mar. As we were seated, I noticed that one of the people seated at the table next to ours looked a lot like Don Prudhomme. So when the women at his table went to the rest room, I went over and said hi, and said I'd been following him in drag racing for about 50 years. Fortunately it was him. He was very gracious.

When his party was leaving, he came over to our table and chatted for a while. He was very nice. I mentioned my relationship to John Force and he said, "I love John!" Hmmm.

Anyway, that's almost as cool as the time I ran into Skunk Baxter at the gas station.

Actually, I think Skunk at the Gas Station is cooler...but I'm a Steely Dan nerd!

Was he wearing his trademark beret?

No, he had long white hair and his big bushy moustache was also white. He was in San Diego consulting to General Atomics on missile defense systems. Seriously. He showed me his ID badge.

Yeah, I just found that out a while ago while checking out his wiki page. Apparently, he sits on a congressional advisory board. It's weird to think that a former Doobie Brother is advising congress on missile defense.
