Looking to upgrade but I can't seem to find any internal blu-ray drives that would work for a 15.4 macbook pro. Are they out there (for a reasonable price)?

I'm wondering though, if a 3rd party company made a slot-loading Blu-Ray drive what would stop someone from installing it and basically making their MBP blu-ray capable? I actually saw one on FastMac.com but it was $1000 which is insane, lol.

You'd have to boot to Windows in order to watch the movies. If you're willing to use Windows on the machine, I'd just get an external BD drive, doesn't take that much space in a laptop bag.

Extra memory, larger hard drives, disk drives, Display replacements, and similar replacements and upgrades cost about the same as any other PC. The difference is that Apple doesn't offer accidental damage coverage and the computers themselves are more expensive. Of course, they are genrally less accessible but I'm ok with that.
In addition there are quite a few services that have popped up that make repairing a mac much less expensive.

But it's not always necessary to make the distinction. Not of the parts I upgraded my laptop with (so far just the HDD and memory) had the "Apple" label but work perfectly and cost about the same as any other PC replacement part. I can see the display being more expensive though since those are proprietary.
