Internet problem

Sign in to disble this ad
Here's the problem, I have a wireless modem and for some reason about a week ago my computer gets the signal but there no is internet (limited connectivity) now there is no internet at all, even if I plug the modem straight to the network adapter so I ask my friend who lives next door if I could try his signal and it works like a charm even though the strength of it is only "fair"

Sometimes you have to restart them. Unplug and plug the power back in.

The entire internet... is GONE! Ahhh! I'm posting into a black hole!! Help.... help...

Seriously, +1 to what Maki said. Leave it unplugged for a good 10 seconds, then make sure you let it cycle all the way back up before trying it.

When I used to work at a help desk, "the internet is down" was one of our favorites...

I already did and unplugging the computer and modem did nothing.

Could be a DNS problem, try manually inputting you IP and DNS addresses for the connection.

I had a similar issue with my dad's old laptop, I had to use the same DNS as the router was using to connect to the ISP. Basically go into your router settings and copy the one it's using into the wireless connection settings on your pc.

That probably doesn't make a lot of sense...I've been drinking.

Reset it to factory settings and put a new WPA password? Maybe someone took admin privileges over your modem and filtered MAC addresses.

Are you still running XP Service Pack 2? The "limited or no connectivity" issue is a known bug with dozens of possible fixes, including changing DNS addresses. It typically has nothing to do with your hardware.

The one thing that worked for me was to reinstall my adapter drivers, and then upgrading to Service Pack 3.

you could also try reinstalling the software that came with the router.

I'm using windows vista home premium, the adapters have been uninstalled and reinstalled and drivers updated.
