Let's get a thread going for question, tips, tricks etc for the iPad.
I love mine, there are some quirks, but I grab it 95% of the time over my MacBook Pro.
One question: why can't I link a video directly from the YouTube app to my facebook page? You think that would be an option, but I can only seem to email it or add it as a favorite. Thoughts? |

FWIW, my boss has one, and I'll use a laptop over it every time. It's a neat toy, but that's all it is to me.

If I had it, it'd definitely get used a ton, but I have other devices that do the same things.

I use my Warrior 99.9% of the time, and it kills my Jazz bass, but every now and then I like to use my Jazz. I don't get on here and trash people for using only a jazz bass. To each his own. |

It's unfortunate. That being said, if I had money to burn I'd definitely own one already. Definitely a "one-day" item for me, but for now I love my iPod Touch.
(The thing I find with Apple products is you usually get rewarded for waiting a couple versions anyway)
Also, I tire of people comparing the iPad to Netbooks. First of all, I would never buy a netbook as it's not enough of a computer for me. I wouldn't buy an iPad for it to be a computer, more so an entertainment device.
I find the iPad is a high quality device with a *BEAUTIFUL* interface (I love iOS personally, and the multi-touch interface just can't be beat IMO) whereas a netbook to me is nothing special.
The iPad is NOT a netbook. But I wouldn't want it to be.

| | | | Apple sent us one when they first came out,
While yeah, it's good at what it does a little ebook reader, casual internet browsing, note taking in meetings and all your otehr basic computer things it works well, though we really don;t use it much kinda just sits in a bag in some ways I'd rather get a kindle for ebooks for some reason.
I don't facebook or anything so no comments on that.
That's about it, I agree it's a neat toy, little more.

iTunes is required to get media on to your device. Got a video?
You can't drop any kind of video file on the device and play it, you need itunes to convert which takes time. Got audio? Again itunes is required, not sure if they have flac support.
No memory card slots, USB ports, firewire ports??? Say what? This is 2010 you know. |

-Mike | Now Now.
There's a phone in the iPhone.

As of right now, I don't use one, but it's a great replacement for a leisure computer.

It works good as a gig device, but the limitations that I mentioned prevent it from being more useful. I also own a TC1100 tablet made by HP and though it's old technology, it's more versatile than an iPad in many ways. The HP Slate will be a lot more useful as a tablet to me as I like to write and diagram ideas by hand. |

I have honestly been looking at one lately to migrate all my charts onto, and for the sweet realbook apps. I am not a naysayer beyond the obvious shortcomings and prohibitive price. I'll have to up to gigging schedule to justify the purchase.
edit: that said, I appreciate these types of product coming to market, and the combination of function and elegance and refinement in Apple's products are not lost on me, I just wish this was more of a game changer than a slightly less than standard-setter.

No memory card slots, USB ports, firewire ports??? Say what? This is 2010 you know. | VLC is a free app that will play any video. Goodreader is a .99 app that will open and play any music file.
The biggest disappointments are lack of flash and no usb, but you can get a cable to adapt to usb.
I'm in education, and we use our filemaker databases daily on it for evaluations, discipline reports, etc. It is great for our needs.
Plus, they are coming out with some really cool and great looking games for it now. |

Honestly, for me, it has been more handy than expected. When I'm at home, I grab it way more than my MacBook Pro. It does everything I need it to do for casual computing, and it looks fantastic. I could see it being really great for charts and things. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
