I know a bunch of us are iPhone users... for those who don't know OS 3.0 was announced yesterday in Cupertino:
This is some of what we're looking at:
* MMS Messaging
* Cut/Copy/Paste and Undo
* Push notifications
* Landscape keyboard in other apps
* Spotlight and search in other apps
* Stereo Pluetooth for headphones
* In-app purchases for info
* Peer-to-peer apps via Bluetooth
* Ability to record voice memos
I'm pretty excited. Coming out this summer.
Thoughts?

I'll still wake up to my 1st-gen Nano.

I'll still wake up to my 1st-gen Nano. | I wake up to AC/DC's Big Balls every morning.

Personally I think that's a load of baloney and is used as a justification by Apple to charge more money to iTouch users.
If you own an original iPhone, you won't get MMS or stereo Bluetooth, as these supposedly require the new radio equipment found in the iPhone 3G (and presumably whatever they call the next iPhone version when it hits this Summer). |

* Push notificationsWhat? Since apps don't run in the background, this allows apps such as chat clients and tweets to notify you that there are updates, without the app open. Just like how you get the notifications for email... that's a push notification
* Landscape keyboard in other appsAWESOME
* Spotlight and search in other appsWhat? You can now search for stuff in apps. Spotlight, like on a Mac, allows you to search the entirety of the unit for specific data.
* Stereo Pluetooth for headphones
* In-app purchases for infoWhat? You can buy an app like an eBook viewer, and instead of having an app for each eBook, you can buy eBooks within the viewer.
* Peer-to-peer apps via BluetoothWhat? You can now trade data, such as vCards (whoever thought of using that nomenclature obviously still has his) to another iPhone via Bluetooth.
* Ability to record voice memos | Hope that answers everything. And that's just the COOL new stuff.

Sarbox threw a lot of monkey wrenches into companies. As far as revenue recognition for an iPhone, one can effectively call it 24 months, or until AT&T allows you to upgrade. Whereas an iPod Touch has an indiscriminate lifespan in which to recognize revenue. Therefore all is recognized at purchase, IIRC, and updates are then paid for.
On an iPhone, they're constantly recongnizing revenue, so they can get away with this... or something.
We had this discussion once in one of my managerial accounting classes. Needless to say, I was half asleep until I heard the word iPhone and had already missed half the conversation. Quote:

But yes, the original iPhone doesn't have the hardware it needs for all features. Some will translate, some will not.
