The new iPhone OS is set to release in the summer. A sneak peek was given today and it's been released to developers.
There's a link to the video here, I think http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/08/i...eo-now-online/
I would have linked it myself, but the page REFUSES to load on my computer for some reason...
Anyway, thoughts?

Since it won't be released until the iPhone 4G comes out, I assume, I'll be waiting until August 18th to check out the new features.
I'm most excited about the single inbox... I hate having to back out of one email account to check the other.

Later

Rob | You don't have to be an Apple-hater to hate the lack of multi-tasking. I've been using an iPhone for a few years, mostly for business, and I HATE that it can't multi-task. I mean absolutely HATE it. I've learned to live with it as best as I can because of a couple other things it does well. As a business phone, the iPhone is a far-cry from what it needs to be. It's more a consumer device that has some business cross-over. If you've never really used an enterprise class business phone that really keeps you connected to your work, it might be kind of hard to understand how frustrating the iPhone can be at times.

Would it kill them to allow me to create folders for my photos, and arrange them on the iphone without having to sync to itunes? That is seriously one of the most irritating things about the iphone. That, and the fact that you can't create folders to organise your email.

AT&T will not yet have a 4G network (nor will Verizon). Yes, AT&T's exclusivity agreement will be expiring but I think that they will continue to work closely with Apple.
I really hope that they do have the yearly upgraded iPhone hardware update this summer as they have done every summer since the iPhone came out. I'm due for a new phone in August. My 3G has been showing it's age over the past 6 months or so. I'm thrilled for multitasking. When I'm running Navigon and I take a phone call I won't have to wait for it to load up again afterwards.
Here's to hoping that the next hardware update runs on the Cortex A9 multicore!

I was an early adopter of Blackberry for the company but made the switch to iPhone a few months ago and would never go back to BB. The BB is a good business tool but the iPhone does everything I need it to do and so much more.
Can anyone tell me about the Apple developer program? Would someone on the developer program get a Beta release of 4.0 now? |

bc | Word on the street is that the new iphone will have an A6 multicore, 1 gig, not quite as fast as the ipad. Also, it will have an HD screen and will support 4G wireless. Those be the rumors, but I suspect that Apple will throw in some more stuff because of how good some of the android phones are that have come out in the last few months.

| | Working on his world citizenship... | | Join Date: Oct 2002 Location: The Colonies | | The multitasking and Bluetooth keyboard support are nice, the gaming network is interesting, but not sure what I think of the whole iAds thing yet - how obtrusive will they be?
Of more geek interest is what was announced yesterday but not talked about - a change to the iPhone SDK terms and conditions. Basically, Apple are insisting that iPhone apps are only built in the three programming languages they specify (Objective-C, C++ and regular C), blocking developers who use other frameworks, including the forthcoming ability for Flash CS5 to create iPhone apps. Many developers use the likes of Unity 3D, Appcelerator, etc to develop iPhone apps (a large percentage of the 3D games on the App Store use Unity 3D), and they won't be able to anymore. That'll alienate a lot of developers.
Objective-C (Apple's primary programming language) isn't familiar territory for most programmers - the syntax is nonstandard and weird, and support is limited to Apple devices. Many developers use Unity, Appcelerator, etc because of their cross-platform publishing abilities.
I sense a mass exodus of peed-off app developers jumping ship to Android. |

Several of the changes won't really apply to me (such as bluetooth keyboard and game center stuff), while others I'll definitely appreciate (unified e-mail and "multitasking"). Don't get me wrong, I love the phone and I personally feel it's currently the best cell phone available for my needs and wants. However, Android is really nice (had the Droid for a bit, loved it, but the service didn't work where I lived so had to give it up) and Windows Mobile 7 looks extremely promising. Unless Apple brings out a fresh design to the phone this summer, by fall I can easily see myself switching platforms. |

Then the ad opens up and "plays", becomes interactive, etc... within the app, instead of exiting the app to launch Safari. As long as I can choose to ignore them, then I see no harm from it.
So far, most of the new features don't do anything for me. It looks like I'll stay jailbroken as long as I'm using an Apple device.

lowsound | Where'd you see that about A6?
I saw this today that speculates an A4: http://www.macrumors.com/2010/04/08/...chat-and-more/
I would be surprised if it had 1GB RAM but that would be cool.
