iPod problem

Sign in to disble this ad
Thought I'd see if anyone could shine a little light on a problem my missus is having with her iPod.

Its the Classic model (Plays videos) just over a year old. The problem is that it won't reliably charge. Sometimes it will charge a little when left on the charger for a few hours, sometimes it won't. It will still allow files to by synchronised onto it totally reliably and its not the charger itself (same happens with mains charger and a seperate USB charger)

Anyone any ideas?

It could be a problem with the battery or the connections between the charging interface and the battery. Does it take any charge? If it does, its probably a battery issue. You can either take it back to an Apple store and see what they will do for you or look for a third party battery on eBay and install it yourself. It will void the warranty, but if Apple wont replace it, voiding the warranty shouldn't be an issue.

It will take charge sometimes, but never up to a full battery

Sounds like a dead battery. Its about 1 year old so that's not uncommon. I would take it back to the largest apple store in your area (or phone Apple customer service). If they won't do anything about it (which is likely) then try a replacement online.

It is most likely that your battery needs to be replaced. I haven't done this with a Classic, but I've replaced the battery as well as the hard drive in my iPod Video, and it is not difficult to do. If you search Google for "ipod classic replace battery" or something similar, you can find video tutorials that will give you an idea about what is involved.

you can get a kit from ipodjuice.com or something like that... they are right here in San Antonio and are supposed to be great little kits

try to change the apple cord before changing batteries. My friend had a similar problem and it was solved when he used my cord. Just burrow one from a friend to see.
